Recently, the environmentalist blog Grist had an awesome 2-part series essentially listing the best & worst places one would want to live from here on out due to the inevitable force that we all have come to know as “climate change.” One list was dedicated to the cities screwed by climate change while the other ranked those spared by climate change.
Some of the cities that made the list of places to be were Seattle, Detroit, Nashville & San Francisco. Meanwhile, the cities they stated will be experiencing serious struggles as time goes on are Honolulu, Miami, New York City & the entire state of Texas.
For the entire lists and the explanations why they were listed, click here & here for screwed & spared, respectively.

Last week on Totally Biased w/ W. Kamau Bell, he moderated a debate on why comedians should stop using rape jokes between the comedian Jim Norton & feminist writer/comedian we’ve never heard of, Lindy West who wrote an open letter to “white, male comedians” a few weeks back calling them to end rape jokes. The on-air debate was pretty brief but a full-length 15-minute video was tossed online briefly after & it was rather interesting to say the least. Just so you can be aware of what went down & why they were debating in the 1st place, take a quick look at the debate below:

Pretty good, right? Valid points made on both ends and even though there was no “winner” in the discussion, the backlash that Lindy has faced since the episode aired has been way too OC (“out of control” for those who might not be hip). Not only have various other comedians (from Rosanne to Michael IanBlack) chimed with their commentary on the subject in since the show first aired but so have a shit ton of random people.
The discussion has been a frequently brought up for about a year now since Lindy first criticized Daniel Tosh for his controversial rape joke back in 2012 when he threatened to rape a girl who told him that his rape jokes weren’t funny. Jim Norton had a chance to give further clarity to the debate a couple of days later on the Laughspin podcast (fast forward to 1:02) but this discussion is likely just picking up.

Lindy, on the other hand, has faced a lot of unnecessary scrutiny since her 1st post and even more following her TV appearance but she’s been strong and has stayed true her position on the subject.

On one end, it’s pretty inappropriate to make rape jokes (directed at the victims especially) or any offensive jokes, for that matter but it is comedy so what are ya’ gonna do? On the other hand, there’s a serious argument for the right to free speech -the holy grail of comedy.
What do you all think? Are rape jokes off limits? What about jokes involving race, religion or any other sensitive subjects? Is this controversy worth the debate or is it just something people simply need to get over & agree to disagree on?

In honor of their concert tonight with MMG’s Gunplay, Save Money got the “Best Of” courtesy from Fake Shore Drive earlier today (cop tix here). First, dropped a music compilation called “Best Of Save Money” which was pretty solid but still doesn’t do the collective’s catalog justice…. Then there was the list of the “25 Best Save Money Songs” which seems like almost the same thing but it apparently is not so check out both links to really dig deeper into what SM’s dropped up to this date.
On the other hand, a lot can be said for the crew’s decision making when it comes to choosing which of their tracks have a visual attached to them. Each member of Save Money has his own style, sound & aesthetic that meshes seamlessly into the overall Save Money movement. They consistently work with some of the most talented directors/videographers in Chicago and every video released seems to stand out from all of the others- and in a crew as deep as Save Money that’s a positive, for sure.
In order to fill that extra void, we’ve decided to compile a small list of our top 10 Save Money videos. No rankings, excessive explanations why or half-assed critiques. Just bangers & god music with equally captivating music videos. So without further ado, here are:
10 Of Save Money’s Illest Video Releases….. So Far- ”Zan With That Lean” (Pt. 3) by Tokyo Shawn x Mojek
- “I Meant It” by Brian Fresco
- “Just” by Joey Purp
- “Holla At Ya Guala” by Tokyo Shawn x Mojek
- “Ig’nant II” by Kami de Chukwu
- “Smoke Again” by Chance the Rapper
- “Naked Pictures” by Vic Mensa & Thelonious Martin
- “W$GTM” by Dally Auston
- “Do It For Save Money 2.0” by Caleb James
- “Did It Before” by Vic Mensa
The coolest cat in the hemisphere can only get cooler. Toro y Moi just dropped some new heat on his Soundcloud earlier today remixing the equally ultra-smooth love song “You & Me” by English up-and-comers Disclosure featuring Eliza Doolittle. If you’re some sort of DJ or you still make mixtapes for whoever you’re trying to bag next, this song deserves a spin. Even if you don’t fall into one of those categories, you should still listen & enjoy it because it’ll make you want to do one of those things after you listen.
Peep the video to the original track below in case you’ve yet to see it or just want to re-watch it. Don’t worry… it’s just as good as the remix.

The Census Bureau has reported that one out of six Americans lives in poverty. A shocking figure. But it’s actually much, much worse.
1. Almost half of Americans had NO assets in 2009
Analysis of Economic Policy Institute data shows that Mitt Romney’s famous 47 percent, the alleged ‘takers,’ have taken nothing. Their debt exceeded their assets in 2009.
2. It’s Even Worse 3 Years Later
Since the recession, the disparities have continued to grow. An OECD report states that “inequality has increased by more over the past three years to the end of 2010 than in the previous twelve,” with the U.S. experiencing one of the widest gaps among OECD countries. The 30-year decline in wages has worsened since the recession, as low-wage jobs have replaced formerly secure middle-income positions.
3. Based on wage figures, half of Americans are in or near poverty.
The IRS reports that the highest wage in the bottom half of earners is about $34,000. To be eligible for food assistance, a family can earn up to 130% of the federal poverty line, or about $30,000 for a family of four.
Even the Census Bureau recognizes that its own figures under-represent the number of people in poverty. Its Supplemental Poverty Measure increases, by 50%, the number of Americans who earn between one-half and two times the poverty threshold.
4. Based on household expense totals, poverty is creeping into the top half of America.
A family in the top half, making $60,000 per year, will have their income reduced by a total tax bill of about $15,000 ($3,000 for federal income tax and $12,000 for payroll, state, and local taxes. The Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau agree that food, housing, and transportation expenses will deduct another $30,000, and that total household expenditures will be about $50,000. That leaves nothing.
Nothing, that is, except debt. The median debt level rose to $75,600 in 2009, while the median family net worth, according to the Federal Reserve, dropped from $126,400 in 2007 to $77,300 in 2010.
5. Putting it in Perspective
Inequality is at its ugliest for the hungriest people. While food support was being targeted for cuts, just 20 rich Americans made as much from their 2012 investments as the entire 2012 SNAP (food assistance) budget, which serves 47 million people.
And as Congress continues to cut life-sustaining programs, its members should note that their 400 friends on the Forbes list made more from their stock market gains last year than the total amount of the food, housing, and education budgets combined.
Mufuckas better keep bottled water on deck cuz it’s supposed to be an even worse heat wave around July…. If you plan on living AND looking like Kanye’s son, I suggest you stay hydrated.
Earlier today, The Huffington Post reported that Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper signed several historic measures to implement marijuana legalization in the state, establishing Colorado as the world’s first legal, regulated and taxed marijuana market for adults. While we wait on Washington State- the other U.S. state to have citizens vote to legalize marijuana for recreational use for adults over the age of 21 last November- to break ground with their laws & final sign offs, the good people of Colorado have managed to be rather proactive with the ordeal.
Probably one of the biggest economic perks for states who legalize marijuana besides the billions of dollars in taxes projected is marijuana tourism. We all know about Amsterdam & its reputation that far precedes itself and smokers might even be familiar with Vancouver and the renowned “BC Bud” but it’s going to be pretty sweet not having to own a passport (and travel to another country) just to smoke a joint in public without risking prison time or, at the least, a petty ticket. Though Colorado’s already benefitted from the perks of legal ganja earlier this year with a spike in traffic over the 4/20 Weekend earlier this year during World Cannabis Cup, the businesses are already sprouting up to further develop that green infrastructure necessary to solidify Colorado as the “Amsterdam of America” (CNN). Hell, pop culture’s been shining light on Denver & it’s home state for a little while now so it’s only right to expect this sort of attention for pot enthusiasts & curious first-timers alike… You can check out Nat Geo Channel’s hit show “American Weed” or the trailer for “High Country” courtesy of Vice’s Moterboard website if you’re looking for cultural relevancy.
Regardless of your stance on the issue, the numbers will never lie. The first signs of economic benefits are now being reported and with recent polls showing support being higher than ever for the legalization of cannabis in all forms (52% for legalization, 56% for legalization of industrial hemp & even 47% support the right to grow your own cannabis) to go along with the rapidly shifting demographics in America, it’s only a matter of time before weed is legal, cheap & abundant in almost every form imaginable- Colorado just seems to either have big enough balls or good enough hearing (or both) to do what the people want… & to think we were just calling the War On Drugs a failure not so long ago.
